About the Leave It Better Project
Founded in 2025 by Bella Lamin, Leave It Better began as a senior project at New Garden Friends School, launched as a monthly cleanup initiative focused on environmental stewardship and youth participation.
The project garnered support from business sponsor, Resurrection Lawn Service, who transported waste to a central location, and City of Greensboro Parks and Recreation who provided cleanup supplies and trash collection.
The project grew to successfully engage students from multiple high schools across Guilford County. Through the City of Greensboro, a friendly competition measured volunteer turnout and total litter collected through May 2026. New Garden Friends School led in both areas.
Building on this success, Bella has adopted the Battleground Avenue corridor in the name of her alma mater, New Garden Friends School. She will continue to engage student volunteers in quarterly beautification and cleanup efforts for the next two years. The Quaker values instilled through her education, including stewardship and simplicity, continue to guide the project mission: take pride in our community and leave every space better than what we found it.
